Volvo Ocean Race Finale

The Volvo Ocean Race Festival will take place from 30th June - 8th July 2012, when a fleet of up to 12 Volvo ‘Open 70’ class boats will arrive at Galway Docks on the penultimate leg from Lorient in France.

The final leg is expected to be a three-day race around Ireland, which will offer double points, before finishing in Galway Bay. As well as playing host to a festival which will last about 10 days, Galway City will also host the closing ceremony for the Ocean Race

Galway Arts Festival 2012

The Galway Arts Festival is Ireland's largest annual arts festival, taking place each July in the city of Galway. Founded in 1978, the Festival collaborates with artists and companies throughout the world to produce and present an international programme of theatre, spectacle, dance, visual arts, music, literature & comedy involving hundreds of artists and performers. Galway Arts Festival is at the heart of all aspects of life in Galway City contributing immeasurably to the economic, social and cultural life of the west of Ireland. Over its 34-year history, the Festival has become a vital showcase for Irish arts internationally and international arts in Ireland and is now firmly established as Ireland's leading arts festival. 

Under the direction of Artistic Director Paul Fahy, Galway Arts Festival will take place from 16-29 July 2012, and will feature over 500 writers, artists, performers and musicians from America, Asia, Australia and Europe and of course Ireland. The Festival will highlight dance, physical theatre and spectacle from America and Europe illustrating the Festival’s continuing commitment to staging extraordinary, ambitious and innovative projects, the world premiere of new Irish theatre, site-specific visual arts commissions and the introduction of the new, specially commissioned Festival Big Top in the spectacular setting by the banks of Galway’s River Corrib to add to the magic and diversity of Galway in July.

Galway Races 2012

Galway Races Festival (30th July - 05th August 2012)

Ireland's biggest and most famous racing festival is held in Galway during the last week of July every year and involves seven days of unrivalled action. This years festival will run from 30th July until 04th August. Some 250,000 people attend the Galway Races throughout the week, and the town has a real buzz at night, with hangovers aplenty the following day. It is a joyous, fun-filled seven days where people might leave with a few less Euros than they had when they arrived but they also leave with great new experiences, new friends and a time that will never be forgotten.  

There are 49 races available in the Galway Festival betting held at the Galway Festival over its seven day duration, the total Prize money on offer this year is in excess of €2 million for the first time. The Blue Riband race is the famous Galway Plate, a race so central to the history of Galway races. It takes place on Wednesday, the third day of the meeting and it will be the race that attracts by far the most media attention and certainly much of the Galway Festival betting. Galway Festival Ladies Day is on the fourth day of the Festival and it is one of the most colourful.
