Not a week goes by without a woman asking me how she can recreate the look of her favourite style icon. In fact the top three women I receive style enquiries about are Kate Middleton along with Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristen Davis (mainly concerning clothes they have worn in their roles as Carrie Bradshaw and Charlotte York)
The fashion worn by these women are usually out of our price range, fortunately however, its very easy recreate some of their most popular looks for a fraction of the price. This week, I have replicated the style of the aforementioned top three, using new stock from Galway’s Topshop, situated in Edward Square just off Shop Street.
1. Kate Middleton
The new duchess won great praise when she wore this green number to an official function during her recent trip to Canada. This new shift dress from Topshop is a great way to replicate her look, particularly if you accessorise it with a very regal antique-style clutch bag. Given the high neckline, I would recommend that you steer clear from wearing a necklace otherwise you will detract from the rouching detail on the dress.
Green sleeveless shift dress: approx €50
Silver frame tassel bag: approx €40
2. Charlotte – Sex & The City
I am in love with this dress. And the cuff bracelet makes me love it even more. This is what is best described as a ‘safe dress’ in that it can be worn anywhere, from a business meeting (when paired with a blazer) to a Saturday night out, to a wedding (when paired with a fur shrug).
Pyramid stretch bracelet: approx €35
Elly dress: approx €47

3. Sarah Jessica Parker – Sex & The City
While this is technically a dress, it would look equally as fabulous if worn over white skinny jeans. Unfortunately the material is quite thin and may require a camisole inside. If you want it to appear more form fitting, I would suggest that you accessorise it with either a white or brown belt.
Gold wide hammered bangle: approx €20
Yellow chiffon embellished neckline swing dress: approx €55
4. Sarah Jessica Parker
This look may have been worn by Carrie Bradshaw but it was made famous by Jackie Onasis. The best thing about this dress is that it can be worn on its own for a night out on the town or with skinny jeans for a day out shopping. The long sleeves also makes it winter-appropriate!
Bangle: approx €20
Shirt dress: approx €40
5. Kristin Davis
These dresses are the epitomy of femininity and with the new Sex and the City series soon back on our screens, they are precisely the kind of styles we can expect to see Charlotte wearing as she saunters about New York once again.

6. Kate Middleton
When Kate stepped off the plane in Canada wearing this yellow number, I was inundated with requests from women wanting to find out where they could pick up a similar dress. This is by far the best version I can find. In fact, I think the lace detail and smaller buttons makes it even prettier than the one Kate wore. To really maximise the ‘feminine’ factor, accessorise it with this glitter clutch.
Multi glitter box purse: approx €40
Yellow Evie dress by Goldie: approx €60
7. Sarah Jessica Parker
While Carrie Bradshaw is a style icon in her own right, its fair to say you would be on the receiving end of some strange looks if you were to step out wearing some of her outlandish outfits. This particular look however is a far more subtle version and will more than likely garner you a few compliments as opposed to a few looks!
Glacier silver bow pointed court shoes: approx €70
Gracie bag by Paul’s Boutique: approx €75
Wrap bodycon dress: approx €45
Black collar jacket: approx: €60
8. Sarah Jessica Parker
While this dress is beautiful on its own, I think it looks so much more stylish when worn with a blazer. To create the illusion of longer legs, pair this dress with nude closed-toe heels.
Victorian locket necklace: approx €13
Blazer: approx €60
Violet panel bodycon dress: approx €50
9. Kate Middleton
This is a very elegant dress and would be perfect for a winter/Christmas wedding. If it takes your fancy, I would recommend that you go for a size bigger as previous wearer’s of the dress have described it as being “quite clingy around the thighs and stomach”.
This dress is very suitable for someone with a big bust or broad shoulders.
Charm and bow bangle: approx €10
Silver clutch: approx €65
Red hourglass shift dress: approx €55
Bow and clock pendant: approx €17
Heart and Arrows silver pendant by Pamela Love: approx €33
Taupe rose chiffon clutch bag: approx €35
10. Sarah Jessica Parker
This one look marries together two of this years biggest trends: lace and kimono. This outfit is very ‘Carrie’ and if you’re a fan of her day-to-day Bohemian style then you will love this particular outfit as it bears more than a striking similarity to the Michael Kor’s dress she is wearing in the accompanying picture.
Glacier pink suede bow pointed court shoes: approx €70
Longline parrot print kimono: approx €80
Black flick lace midi dress by Boutique: approx €150
11. Kate Middleton
Even though Kate has been wearing this kind of dress for years now, the popularity of the style only increased in the months following her wedding to Prince William. This particular dress from Topshop Galway is a firm favourite when it comes to merging style with comfort and its almost identical to that worn by Kate. This dress also has an elasticised waist, which means it is form fitting without restriction.
Confetti dress by Yuki: approx €60
Black patent ankle strap espadrille wedges: approx €70
12. Sarah Jessica Parker
Well you can’t get any more casual-chic than this!
The pink blazer makes this look what it is and even though it’s quite pricey at €100, it is one of those items you will have for years to come. Remember, blazers will never go out of fashion.
This stylish pink coat would also come in very handy for wearing over dresses during winter.
White Mickey Mouse print t-shirt: approx €22
Dusty pink silk blazer: approx €100
Tall skinny jeans: approx €42
13. Sarah Jessica Parker
Carrie Bradshaw may have worn this outfit when out shopping, however I would suggest that you do it justice by showing it off on a night out!
The deep pink colour of the dress is very feminine which is why I feel the bow-belt and feather clutch will work best with it.
Pink shift dress: approx €50
Black patent bow elastic belt: approx €16
Black feather jewel clasp purse: approx €30

While for the most part, the wardrobe of Samantha Jones is a tad risqué, on occasion she appears wearing something very fabulous, like this purple halter neck dress for instance. With colour blocking being very big this year, the green belt and beige coat look amazing with it. Samantha is also known for her gold jewellery so I would suggest that you accessorise the outfit with these gold drop earrings. Given that the buckle of the belt is also gold, it would be best to complete the look with strappy gold sandals.
Purple split neck halter dress: approx €42
Taupe asymmetric jacket: approx €60
Tiger head drop earrings: approx €10
Green belt: approx €20
15. Kate Middleton
Since her wedding, Kate has worn several lace-embellished outfits, all of which have captured the admiration of style enthusiasts everywhere. If you too are a fan, then you will love the new lace dresses on offer from Topshop in Galway. This particular dress comes in three colours (purple, pink and blue). Given the amount of lace detail, it would be best to keep the jewellery subtle and to a minimum.
Lucite silver clutch: approx €56
Sienna silver metallic platform peep toe: approx €70
Lace dress: approx €50
16. Kate Middleton
The simple blazer and jeans style will always be a girl’s fail-safe look however with one or two minor adjustments, it may also become a girl‘s ‘compliment-guaranteed’ look. In this particular case, silver heels and a ruffle blouse are what make this outfit stand out. To keep your jeans blue and your blazers black, make sure to wash them in colour enhancers (which can be bought from any supermarket.)
Petite black ¾ Sleeve blazer: approx €70
Cream sheer frill front shirt: approx €40

When your dress is plain, you can really make a statement with your shoes. These green-and-gold sandals for instance are very similar to what Carrie herself would wear and look amazing when paired with this one-shoulder dress. Fortunately, they are a fraction of the price of Carrie’s beloved Manolo’s.

This is a pink/peach version of the purple dress featured in picture number 8. While the colour purple worked best with a black blazer, this particular colour would be best paired with a sharp white blazer.
Pink bandage bodycon dress: approx €45
Snake wrist clamp: approx €15
19. Sarah Jessica Parker
This is a very city-style outfit and one that is quite typical of Carrie. From the copper sandals to the pink/silver bag, the overall key to working this look is confidence and colour blocking!

Within hours of Kate wearing this Zara dress, the website went into overdrive and almost crashed. In fact, such was the demand that it is now being reintroduced to the stores albeit in a very limited number. If you were one of the many fan’s of that dress, then you will love this particular offering from Topshop. If wearing it to a formal event, I would recommend that you complete the look with court shoes and a clutch bag.
Tuck shift dress: approx €50
Black rose chiffon clutch bag: approx €30
Glacier black suede bow pointed court shoes: approx €70
21. Kristin Davis
Both the style and colour of this dress are insanely pretty. For a vintage old school look, accessorise with one of these antique-style necklaces. If wearing to a wedding, pair it with a white fur shrug or a wrap. If however you are wearing it on a night out, I would recommend that you twin it with a white blazer.

Who could forget the famous corsage dress worn by Carrie Bradshaw in the opening scenes of the first SATC movie? This black number from Topshop is very similar to that dress, albeit slightly more subtle. As the silver corsage detail immediately draws the eye upwards, it is the perfect style for anyone trying to disguise either a big bust or tummy weight. Silver or black sandals will work beautifully with this look.
One shoulder corsage dress: approx €60
Multi glitter box purse: approx €40
Suede strappy platform sandals: approx €65
23. Kristin Davis
Long before Kate Middleton was donning the lady-like trend, Charlotte York was pioneering it. In fact Topshop have a wide range of ‘Charlotte-esque’ dresses that are very similar to those she wore throughout the SATC series.

This scalloped jacket from Topshop is very similar to what Kim is wearing in the picture. Even though she wears a belt in the same colour as her jacket, I would suggest that you embrace the colour blocking trend and go with a different colour. Regardless of what shade belt you choose, ensure that it is not the same colour as your shoes otherwise it will look far too matchy-matchy.
Black scallop edge boucle jacket: €70

This colour can be beautiful on some women and draining on others. If you have sallow skin or a natural-looking tan, this dress is almost guaranteed to look amazing on you. Unfortunately given the nature of the colour and the fabric, this is not the dress to be worn with instant-tan as the product will transfer onto the fabric and may prove quite difficult to remove.
Grecian plait dress by Rare Opulence: approx €160
26. Kristin Davis
When she’s not wearing the prettiest of dresses, Charlotte York can often be found in tailored jeans usually paired with either a cable knit top or a tweed blazer. While sometimes tweed can be quite stifling, this particularly stylish jacket from Topshop is the next best thing. Its fabric is very breathable and if you don’t want to wear it on its own, then simply pair it with a plain white tank top.
