Looking forward to the Arts Festival.
Here are my top 3 events that I am looking to take in over the coming weeks.
No1. Del La Soul- 23rd of July
American hip–hop legends De La Soul bring its snappy brand of ‘old–skool cool’ to the Festival Big Top. More recently known for their collaborations with Gorillaz, (including the Grammy Award winning Feel Good Inc.),
De La Soul made their name with their eclectic sampling and quirky lyrics. With a string of critically acclaimed albums from Stakes is High to the cult classic De La Soul is Dead, hip–hop has rarely sounded as uplifting. De La Soul are joined by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble who take their stylistic cues from jazz, funk, hip–hop, and various strains of world music to deliver a powerful live experience.
They are being supported by the Kaynu Tree who are set for big things according to the guys and girls here at the hotel.
No2 Love Love Love- this is what the brochure says and it has intrigued me.
“It could have been politicians or old men, an orchestra or ballet or something old like that but it wasn’t. It was pop music. Young people, like us, dressed up as they want. Things are changing every day at the moment.”
June 25, 1967. The night The Beatles sang All You Need Is Love, the first live global TV event, and Kenneth and Sandra know the world is changing. And they want some of it. Olivier Award–winning playwright Mike Bartlett’s ferociously funny new play Love, Love, Love takes on the baby boomer generation as it retires, and finds it full of trouble. Smoking, drinking, ambitious and paranoid, one couple’s forty–year journey from initial burst to full bloom.
The show is running for 4 Nights from the 12th to the 16th with two shows on the 16th . I hope you get to enjoy it
NO. 3 Misterman
Hollywood comes to Galway- Runing for 14 nights, (7th -24th of July). Hollywood star Cillian Murphy makes his eagerly–awaited return to the stage in a dark, dangerous and blisteringly funny tale of one man and his judgment day.
Enda Walsh directs an electrifying new version of his devastating play. The production reunites two major stars for the first time since their collaboration with Walsh’s groundbreaking Disco Pigs fifteen years ago.
They are joined by a world–class creative team: the production is designed by Jamie Vartan, with lighting by Adam Silverman and sound design by Gregory Clarke, and features the world premiere of a specially–commissioned score by Donnacha Dennehy.
I hope you get to come and enjoy my choices of the Arts Festival- Don’t forget there are is also 14 days and nights of free street entertainment for all the family.
Look forward to welcoming you all and chatting to you over the coming weeks.
Le meas,
Paul
